Usually, the fairy tales do get fixed and do get their Happily Ever After in the end, but almost all of the essential plot details have been rewritten.
Somehow, the siblings end up messing up the fairy tales in some way every time, and they need to turn everything back the way it was before finding their way home. This is a fiction book, so according to Rule of Drama, something has to go wrong.
